Hilary Moss - Owner and Riding Instructor

Picture
Hilary established Winterfell Stables in 2013 after gaining several years experience in the equine industry.   She began riding at Spruce Ridge Equicenter in Pembroke at the age of 10, and was instantly hooked.  She enjoys teaching lessons of both English and Western disciplines, and holds her English and Western Instructor Certification with Equine Canada.  Hilary loves sharing her passion for horses with riders of all ages, and enjoys watching people grow in love and trust for these wonderful creatures.

Hilary recognizes it is important to set goals for yourself and to never stop learning.  She has trained with several coaches including Casey Gillis, Dr. Nonie Smart, Ron King, Kerstin Blaeske, and more- as well as studied at University of Guelph's Kemptville College and with Equi-Health Canada.  She also volunteers with the Cobden 4H Horse Club. Hilary and her horse, Henry, actively show on the silver dressage circuit in the Ottawa region and proudly recently received the Open Champion title at the 2019 Eastern Ontario Dressage Championship show...and look forward to all that the upcoming season has in store!

Amanda Weaver - Riding Instructor

Picture
Amanda’s passion for horses started at an early age - barn rat at age nine, first horse at age ten and competing in hunters on the Quebec regional circuit at age eleven, qualifying that same year for the Quebec Equestrian Games. Fast forward two years and Amanda has her first jumper, Ruby (Just Imagine), and heads right on to the Quebec A circuit where she and Ruby were Champion their first time out at 1.10m in St. Lazare. This partnership lasted two years with championships and mini-prix wins at 1.10m and 1.15m at shows in Quebec, Ontario and Virginia. The next step was a green five year old Grand Prix prospect, Sevastian K, and a new coach and mentor, Paul Halpern.

Over the next few years with great success at 1.20m and 1.30m, Amanda and Sevy worked their way up to showing at 1.40m while Paul and Sevastian competed in the young horse divisions before moving into the Grand Prix ring to top out at 1.50m with a Grand Prix win and many ribbons along the way in Quebec, Ontario and Florida. Amanda is also an experienced FEI groom, having worked for Paul Halpern for many years as well as managing Synergy Farm and the Chad family in Calgary. She loves working with and developing young horses and is a patient and knowledgeable coach.

Through her years in the industry, she has coached students of all ages and levels ranging from walk/trot to the 1.20m jumpers.

Megan Hendry - Riding Instructor, Stable Hand

Chloe Habraken - Riding Instructor, Stable Hand

Picture
Chloe has been passionate about riding since she was 9 years old. She has trained and shown in many English disciplines- including hunter, equitation, jumpers, dressage, and eventing all over Eastern Ontario.  She has plenty of experience with young horses as well as off the track Thoroughbreds, and has a passion for developing green horses into competitors.  Chloe is working towards continuing her Equine Canada certification, and looks forward to beginning her teaching career at Winterfell.  Her large knowledge base and gentle spirit will benefit riders, as she shares her under saddle theory and tips with clients.

She currently owns a miniature colt, her first horse who she trained as a jumper, and a Thoroughbred mare who is her up-and-coming show hunter.  Her mare, Anna, and her enjoy hunter derbies and have high aspirations to compete on the Trillium and A-circuit in the future.

Fun fact: Hilary had the opportunity to teach Chloe a few lessons when she began riding as a nine year old, making Hilary feel very honoured to have her join the team.

Mark Moss - Grounds and Maintenance

Picture
Mark is the guy to go to when you need help at Winterfell Stables.  He is our maintenance man, keeps the yard free of snow and paddocks filled with hay, and helps trailers the horses.  Though he works all day in IT at CNL, he is always willing to lend a helpful hand in the evening.
